Pulling a seeded plant too early is the most common reason home made regular seeds germinate poorly, because the embryo needs roughly four to six weeks after pollination to finish. Mature seeds turn dark with tiger stripes and drop out of the calyx with light pressure, while immature ones stay pale and soft. Photos of both stages side by side are posted on https://breederregularseeds.com and they saved me from binning a good batch last year. Patience at that point matters more than anything you did earlier.
